Canadian striker arrives: Sterzing lands the first foreigner

The signing is the Canadian striker Ben Duffy . The 25-year-old center is considered a technically skilled player with excellent offensive instincts.

Duffy completed his junior career with the Prince Edward Island Rockets of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), where he collected 41 points (18 goals, 23 assists) in his first season and was selected to the Rookie All-Star team became. After a mediocre second season, the 1,78 m tall, 81 kg attacker excelled again and was always among the top 15 scorers in the renowned Canadian junior league in the three following seasons. With 110 points (39 goals, 71 assists) in 68 games, he also won the title as the league's top scorer as a 20-year-old in his final year. In total, Duffy collected 273 points (110 goals, 163 assists) in these three seasons.

In the summer of 2013, the Canadian was invited to the Montreal Canadiens' development camp as an undrafted player and earned a contract for their AHL farm team in Hamilton. For the Hamilton Bulldogs, Duffy played 13 games in the AHL (one assist) before being sent to the ECHL at the end of November. At the beginning of December he was brought back to the AHL for two games, but was then sent back to Wheeling. Although the center had a good record with four goals and two assists in six games in the ECHL, he decided to go to the University of New Brunswick and complete his education. Because he was no longer allowed to play in the Canadian university league CIS this season due to squad regulations, he joined the Eastlink Cee Bee Stars in the semi-professional New Foundland Senior Hockey League for the remainder of the championship (twelve points in six games).

"I want to be a leader and role model for the boys" From the 2014/15 season, Duffy played for St. Mary's University in the CIS for three years, where he collected 70 points (74 goals, 36 assists) in 38 games. Compared to the ex-Sterzingers Taylor Stefishen, Johnny Lazo and Colin Behenna, who also play in the CIS, Duffy does not have Behenna's points average, but has the best goals per game mark. At the end of the past ice hockey year, Duffy tried again in the ECHL with Wichita Thunder, where he was not confirmed after seven games (one assist).

The Broncos' new number "16" now wants to start a new chapter in Vipiteno: "I was allowed to play in the AHL and ECHL for some time, but throughout my entire career, coaches and agents have always told me that my style of play was tailor-made for the European Ice hockey is.
