Canadian workhorse finds its way to Brunico

The 26-year-old forward comes from the heart of Canada (Brandon, Manitoba), took a detour to the West Coast (Kamloops Blazers) in junior hockey before becoming captain of his hometown with the Brandon Wheat Kings. In four years in the junior league, Wiebe earned a good reputation in 305 games (218 points), which immediately gave him a chance in the AHL. From 2011 to 2013, the left-shooter played in the AHL (38 games / 7 points), ECHL (12 games / 12 points) and CIS (17 games / 20 points). At just 23 years old he made the jump to Europe, where his first and only stop was at EHC Olten (Switzerland) in the National League B. Wiebe was so convincing in the 2013/14 season that his contract was extended for another two years. In three years as a “Nati B” player, Wiebe also developed a reputation in Switzerland as a team player and good ice skater. The stats: 132 scorer points in 157 games. “Wiebe should now take on a leading role at HC Pustertal in the “Alps Hockey League” and drive the Wolves’ storm,” the Wolves said.
