Narrow defeat in Vienna: Bolzano is on the verge of elimination

The “Foxes” were under a lot of pressure in the first third at the Albert Schultz ice rink and found it difficult to get out of their own defensive zone for a long time. With simple losses of targets, Alex Egger and Co. made life difficult for themselves and opened up several opportunities for the Viennese. Luckily for the many Bolzano fans who had traveled with them, the Capitals didn't convert these into goals, so it initially remained a goalless draw. In the last minutes of the starting period, the HCB was able to free itself more and more from its own half and made the game a little more balanced. However, nothing changed in the score until the first break - it remained 0-0.

In the middle third the game developed into an open exchange of blows. The people of Bolzano found their way into the game better and better and also came up with some dangerous shots. On the other hand, Vienna weakened itself through a large number of penalties. Because the HCB remained mostly pale with one more man on the ice, the home team's penalty minutes had no consequences. Shortly before the end of the third - at the worst possible time from Bolzano's point of view - Vienna took the lead: after a quick counterattack, the puck passed through Rotter to Ferland, who only had to push it in and make it 1-0.

In the last 20 minutes, the “Foxes” were forced to react due to the deficit, but the Bolzano team were unable to put any real pressure on the Capitals’ goal. Only when the last minutes of the game began did the HCB's chances become more concrete. First Root failed to hit the post, then it was the goalpost that prevented the equalizer from Bernard's shot. Even when Tom Pokel took goalie Melichercik off the ice for a sixth field player, the 1-1 score didn't work out. In the end it was 1-0 for the Caps, who secured their third win in the third semi-final game. Now the Viennese are only one step away from reaching the final.
