Royal transfer: HCB brings NHL experience on board

It is the royal transfer that the white and red fans have been eagerly waiting for for weeks: The HCB is equipping its offensive with 32-year-old center Mike Angelidis, who has a long history in the AHL and several NHL appearances.

Angelidis (185 cm x 97 kg) began his career in Ontario (Canada), where he immediately attracted attention. In 2006 he moved to the Florida Everblades in the ECHL. His talent also brought him to a few appearances in the AHL in the ranks of the Albany River Rats. The following season he was promoted to alternate captain at the Rats thanks to his goals and assists, before moving to the Norfolk Admirals in 2010/11, where he collected 83 points in 38 games. From 2011 to 2015 he also played a few games in the NHL with the Tampa Bay Lightning, for whom he made 14 appearances and scored 2 goals. At the same time, Angelidis shone in the AHL wearing the Admirals jersey, with whom he won the championship. He then captained the Syracuse Crunch and was called up to the 2015-16 AHL All-Star Game. In 2016/17 he moved to league rivals Stockton Heat, where he was immediately elected captain. In total, Angelidis has 139 goals and 165 assists in 745 matches in the AHL.

“I will contribute my experience”

Now the 32-year-old is ready for his first European adventure. “I am extremely enthusiastic about this challenge with the Foxes,” these were Angelidis’ first words as a Bozner, “I have not only received positive reports about the team and the city, but also about the fans. The larger playing field is a novelty for me, but it will be easier to pass the puck, which suits my characteristics perfectly. I want to help the Foxes win because the only goal is to reach the top. Will I be the leader of the team? My experience as captain will certainly help me in this sense, but the most important thing is a unified team spirit where everyone plays for each other."

Neo-coach Pat Curcio is very enthusiastic about the latest addition: “Angelidis is a born leader with winning qualities, I am absolutely sure that his experience will give everyone more self-confidence. He will be irreplaceable in the faceoffs, but also in the special teams.”
