Last minute victory: Taylor Vause makes the HCB celebrate in Vienna

In his first game at his old place of work, HCB coach Tom Pokel was able to rely on new signing Brodie Ried, whose permission to play arrived around half an hour before the first puck drop. However, he was initially unable to contribute to livening up the game. Both teams cautiously felt each other out - before Kurtis McLean hit the mark out of nowhere in the 13th minute. His goal came from a confusing commotion and was only counted after video evidence was used. A few minutes later, Markus Gander missed Bozen's first success with an aluminum hit.

New signing Ried has to go down injured

This was one of the few highlights of an uneventful game that continued to plod along in the second half. Ried didn't live to see this again. He was hit hard on the wrist during his EBEL debut and was immediately taken to hospital to be checked. Bolzano was then more active, but lacked the necessary penetration on offense. Tayler Vause and Alex Foster missed the best chances.

The approximately 50 HCB fans who had traveled with them had to wait until the beginning of the final third among the almost 4.850 spectators (season record!) in the Albert-Schulz-Halle until the goal was scored. But then suddenly everything happened very quickly: via Alex Egger the disc came to Vause, who played across to Jerry Pollastrone. This netted unhindered. After that, the HCB missed the chance to completely turn the tables with the advantage. When everyone was already expecting an extension, Bolzano came up trumps again. Marco Insam won the puck and put Vause in the spotlight. He flicked the disc into the net from a half-left position. At this point there were only 25 seconds left to play. The South Tyroleans' last-minute victory was perfect!

Tom Pokel couldn't have imagined his return to Vienna-Kagran better: In the last minute of the game, Taylor Vause made it 2-1 and secured HC Bozen a deserved away win against Vienna Capitals, second in the table.
