“Marcel, Marcel…” will be shouted again this year in the ice wave

Marcel Melichercik (188 cm x 80 kg) began his career in the youth team of HK SKP Poprad in Slovakia and until his transfer to Bolzano he always played in his native country or in the Czech Republic. There he won a championship title in the Slovak Extraliga with Kosice in 2014/15. With his saves in the white and red uniform, he often helped the team to get the chestnuts out of the fire in difficult moments and his improvement in performance in the playoffs was impressive: in the quarter-final series against Linz he drove the opponent to despair and was instrumental in their promotion to the Semi-finals involved. In 9 playoff games he saved 93,3% of the opponent's shots and was the second best goaltender in the postseason.

“The first year was fantastic – enthuses Melichercik – it gave me the opportunity to try something new and was a great experience for me as a goalkeeper and also as a person. I have received several offers in the last few months, but returning to Bolzano was a natural decision for me. My family feels comfortable here and the club wanted to extend the contract for the coming season, so there was nothing against staying here for another year. The primary goal for the upcoming championship is of course to reach the playoffs. These are without a doubt the highlight of the season and we can achieve great things there. Let's wait and see what the new team will look like. In the meantime, I've only heard positive things about the new coach Pat Curcio and I'm looking forward to getting to know him personally." Finally, he said a few words to the white and red fans who were expecting the Slovakian goalie to be reconfirmed. “They are the best fans I have ever met and I would like to thank them for their support and hope that they will also stand behind me in the new season: from my side I will do everything to make them happy make".

Coach Pat Curcio is also pleased with the confirmation of the white and red goalkeeper: “His signature is very important - he explains - Marcel has played a great season and is a goalie who gives the entire team stability and security. I am convinced that he can repeat and top his performances from last season: his confirmation is the foundation for building a solid defense."
