Marek Posmyk becomes a “wolf”

The physically strong defensive guarantor spent most of his career in the Czech Extraliga, where he played 344 games. Posmyk is described as a good skater who has a good shot and can also contribute to the offense.

In addition to his impressive stature (196cm and 104kg), Marek Posmyk also brings a lot of experience to Bruneck. After making his debut in the Czech Extraliga in 1995 as a 17-year-old and being drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the second round the following year, the “defensive bulwark” moved overseas. There he made 2 NHL and 19 AHL appearances for the Tampa Bay Lightning and St. John's Maple Leafs in just under five seasons. The Czech spent two seasons in the OHL and IHL.

In 2001 he returned to Europe, where in the following nine winters he was almost exclusively involved with Czech first division teams, apart from two stints in Nuremberg and Linz. Zlin, Slavia Prague, Plzen, Budejovice, Pardubice and Boleslav were the stops in his country's top league after his return. In the 2002/03 season, the defensive specialist celebrated the championship title with HC Slavia Prague after completing an incredible playoff series with a personal scorer of seven points. In total, he had 91 scorer points in 344 championship games in his home league.

The chicken began the past season with the Lausitzer Füchse from the German Bundesliga before moving to Italy after his try-out contract expired at the beginning of November 2010. At the old champions Cortina, together with his compatriot Daniel Branda, he brought new life into the team and was named “Defender of the Month” in the month of his signing. In the end, he narrowly missed out on taking part in the playoffs with the Ampezzan team. In 25 Serie A games, Posmyk scored 23 points (5 goals and 18 assists).

In addition to the confirmed Swede Fredrik Persson, a Czech will also be replacing the HCP team next season: 32-year-old Marek Posmyk is moving from SG Cortina to runner-up HC Pustertal.
