Close to the coup: Unterland loses Supercup against Asiago

In a rousing duel that was even more exciting towards the end, Asiago prevailed 4-3 after extra time. While the Stellati became the Supercup record winners with their sixth trophy win, the Cavs got the around 350 spectators excited about the inaugural season in the Alps Hockey League with a committed performance. In view of this idea, the fact that the fourth title win in the club's three-year history was not achieved should be something that can be tolerated in the lower country.

The starting third in the WürthArena clearly belonged to the favorite from Veneto. In the 9th minute, Troy Rutkowski scored with an elegant shot from the slot to make it 1-0, then Unterland goalie Simone Peiti defused a penalty from Giordano Finoro. Haarala keeps the Cavaliers in the game In the middle third, Allan McShane hit the post again to make it 2-0 to Asiagos. But just seconds later, the other side cheered: after a Remolato cross pass, Santeri Haarala scored to make it 1-1. However, the tie only lasted four minutes before Randy Gazzola gave Asiago the lead again with a slap shot on double power. Immediately afterwards, the guests were unlucky again when Salinitri hit the post. But just now, when Asiago seemed to be exploiting all of its quality, the Unterlanders struck again with ice cold - and again it was Haarala who hit the mark. The Finn's cross corner goal was his second power play goal of the evening.

The Cavs really tasted blood with the equalizer. In the final third an open exchange of blows developed in which the home team took the lead for the first time in the 44th minute. Moritz Kaufmann lifted the disc into the net from a short distance. Ten minutes later, the strong McShane sent both teams into overtime with a successfully completed counterattack.

Right at the start of extra time, Luka Nyman rattled Asiago's goalposts with a bang, but in return Nick Saracino failed to hit the post. The latter action was the harbinger of Asiago's winning goal: in the 66th minute, Michele Marchetti and Finoro stormed towards Peiti. He was initially able to defend, but was powerless to deal with Finoro's follow-up. It was the end of this even Supercup fight. Close to the coup: Unterland loses Supercup against Asiago

Asiago Hockey has thwarted the great sensation of the Unterland Cavaliers. The ICE newcomer grabbed the Supercup at the very last minute in the Neumarkt WürthArena.
