Thrills without a happy ending

There, HCB Südtirol played a memorable game against the Czech club HC Znojmo - but the 4:5 defeat after extra time left a bitter taste not only for the fans (around 2000), but also for the players. Also because the hoped-for jump into the secured play-off places didn't come to fruition. As part of the 31st matchday, HC Znojmo played in the Bolzano Eiswelle - the starting position alone was hard to beat in terms of explosiveness. The HCB wanted to continue its play-off campaign after two recent wins and overtake Znojmo in the table with a win. The people of Bolzano have to blame themselves for the fact that nothing came of it in the end. In an intense and aggressive game, the HCB was already in the lead 3-1 in the middle third.

But then a change of goalkeeper for the Czech guests brought the turning point: Bozen bit its teeth on the young Fucik and breathed the self-confidence back into Znojmo. The guests worked their way forward step by step, scoring the next goal in the second third, before Znojmo attacker Stach silenced the Bozen ice wave with a brace in just two minutes (47th and 49th) - because suddenly Bozen found itself in the lead a residue again. But the capital city team showed their morale and equalized in the disjointed final phase thanks to a solo effort from Broda. At this point, due to the many time penalties, there were only four players on the ice. Consequently, a decision had to be made in extra time. Three minutes after kick-off, Alexander Egger lost his stick, Znojmo started a counterattack, made it 5:4 through Baca and secured the extra point. Two lost points for the HCB.
