Neumarkt signs ex-NHL warrior Mike Craig

“The offer to sign Mike Craig came as a very surprise. We were a little hesitant at first, but after the excellent references that his former coaches and teammates gave him, we are very convinced that Mike will enrich and strengthen our team in every way,” explained Neumarkt President Ivo Visintin.

Mike Craig was born 41 years ago in London, Ontario, Canada and celebrated his first major successes in the OHL with the Oshawa Generals together with superstar Eric Lindros. The right-handed shooter was drafted in the second round by the Minnesota North Stars and played two world championships with the Canadian U20 national team.

After three seasons with Minnesota, Craig moved to Toronto via the Dallas Stars where he stayed for three years. The attacker played a total of 449 games in the NHL, in which he recorded 172 points.

Craig then went to the AHL, where he averaged one point per game. After five seasons in the AHL, the goalgetter moved to Langnau, Switzerland in 2002/2003 and began his ten-year European career there. In the following nine years, Craig achieved cult status, especially in Austria (four years with the Vienna Capitals, four years in Klagenfurt and one season in Villach). The striker scored an incredible 4 points (406 goals) in 449 games.

However, the experienced Canadian striker is not only an excellent player, but also a real fighter - and winner on the ice. This is proven by his two championship titles, which he celebrated with the Vienna Capitals and Klagenfurter AC.

Mike Craig is scheduled to arrive in Neumarkt next Friday and will wear the Wild Goose jersey number 72 for the first time this weekend.
