New addition to the HCB: The Italian-Canadian striker Alex Petan is coming

AlexPetan (175 cm x 85 kg) comes from a family where ice hockey is at home, as his brother Nic is also a hockey player in the NHL with the Winnipeg Jets. Alex began his career in the BCHL, a youth league in British Columbia. In 2012 he moved to the NCAA, where he scored 135 points in 153 games over four seasons at Michigan Tech. He also held the captaincy there in the 2015/16 season and played 10 matches in the AHL with the Iowa Wild in the same year. Last season, Petan played in the ECHL with the Quad City Mallards, where he made the playoffs and scored 50 points in 38 games. Because of these performances, he also made 19 appearances in the AHL on loan with the Iowa Wild and Cleveland Monsters.

Petan was recommended by the coach of the Italian national team Stefan Mair, who in turn received a tip from Saul Miller, one of the best-known sports psychologists.

“I am happy that I chose Bolzano,” explains Petan, “because the information I have about the city and the fans - which I am particularly excited about - is only of a positive nature. I have big plans for this new challenge: I am a small but very fast player and am therefore convinced that I can exploit my full potential on the larger playing field. I've been training every day for two months because I want to present myself in perfect shape. I'm looking forward to the start of the season and will do everything I can to help the team win the championship. Some colleagues who already play in Europe have described the EBEL to me as a very competitive and exciting championship.”

“Alex is a player with excellent skills,” explains coach Pat Curcio, “his main strength is his skating speed: his extraordinary acceleration allows him to leave opponents standing in their tracks. He is also characterized by his leadership qualities, as his past as a captain in Michigan underlines this. We are sure that he can develop into a top player in Europe."
