Nottingham Panthers win Continental Cup 2017

Ritten and Nottingham set a high pace from the start on Sunday. After just two minutes, Ivan Tauferer had to go to the penalty box and the English took advantage of this numerical advantage. Matt Carter scored on a pass from Erik Lindhagen to make it 1-0. When Carter had to go into the cooler in the 15th minute, Simon Kostner had a great chance to equalize, but he missed Panthers goalie Wiikman's goal from a good position.

50 seconds before the break, Brad Cole also received a penalty. Again with consequences, because immediately after the break Chris Lawrence increased the score to 2-0 in the power play on a pass from ex-Rittner Jason Williams. Nottingham continued to push, but Patrick Killeen went above and beyond and destroyed several of England's chances with brilliant saves. In the 28th minute the Rittners reduced the score to 1:2. Wiikman fended off a shot from Alex Frei that went too short, Markus Spinell reacted quickest and scored the goal. Less than a minute later, Dan Tudin could have scored the equalizer, but was denied by the strong Wiikman. The “Buam” were then unable to take advantage of a two-minute double advantage and were promptly punished for it, because shortly afterwards the English team increased the score to 3-1 in the power play (Tauferer was in the penalty box) with Robert Farmer. The pass came again from Jason Williams.

In the final period of the game, the “Panthers” continued to control the game, while Ritten was no longer able to gain momentum. 37 seconds before the final siren, Robert Farmer scored into the Rittner's empty goal. The game ended with the English deserved 4-1 win.
