The climbers Rittner Buam Who would have thought? The Rittner Buam are in the final of the Italian championship – and on the way there they brought down the big HC Pustertal. Many had already written off Buam after the shaky start to the season and the 0-9 defeat against the Red Bull Juniors. Are you kidding me? Are you serious when you say that! Led by an outstanding goalie Hannes Treibenreif, they slowly found their rhythm and set their first exclamation marks with successes against HC Pustertal, Salzburg and Feldkirch. A winning streak then gave Santeri Heiskanen's team the confidence they needed to survive in the best-of-three series against the Wolves. What happened in the three games can certainly be described as a miracle. With only 3 Legionnaires, with goalie Luke Cavallin never playing and MacGregor Sharp only playing in the decisive game, Simon Kostner & Co. defeated the Black and Yellows. Commitment, skill, experience and, last but not least, a bit of luck contributed to this. Even if the Buam don't win the title against Asiago, this performance will be etched in their minds forever. And sometimes that is worth more than the actual victory. The relegated one HC Pustertal Not again! That's probably what all HCP fans thought on Saturday evening. With good reason. Because the wolves had all the trump cards in the series. They failed neither because of the class of their opponents nor because of their sensational drive. Rather, it was their own inability that tipped the scales against the favorite. Both in the first encounter, when the Wolves should have decided the game early on, and in the third game, Basile's team failed to take advantage of many chances. The fact that the top performers in the series didn't reach their full potential contributed to the matter. And when everything that can come together comes together, this is the result: a series that should never have been lost was lost. Now Max Oberrauch & Co. still have the AlpsHL to say goodbye to the venerable Rienzstadion in the best possible way. They definitely have the quality to win this.
