The rising star HCB South Tyrol Alperia 3 wins, 9 points, 13 goals and all within 6 days: HC Bozen couldn't have got off to a better start after the Corona break. What is more impressive than these raw numbers is the passion with which the Foxes are currently working. Although they only had a few minutes of play under their belt recently, they try to keep up the pace for 60 minutes, using their bodies hard and sometimes too hard and throwing themselves into every shot. The HCB cracks also master a technique that requires a lot of sacrifice, but is becoming increasingly popular and important in modern ice hockey: deflection, the deflecting of a shot. Since the goalkeepers are now difficult to overcome with long-range shots, it is all the more effective to place a striker in the path of the shot, thereby blocking the goalie's view and, ideally, giving the target the change of direction that results in the goal. This precision work between two players is the result of countless training sessions that coach Greg Ireland accompanies every day with a watchful eye. With his instructions he made the foxes obedient and aroused this passion in them, which clearly glossed over the currently somewhat erratic game structure. The relegated one Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan The Broncos from Vipiteno provided the current counter-example to HC Bozen last week. The Fuggerstadt team, battered by injuries, has recently staggered from one major defeat to the next; the golden October in which they achieved a series of spectacular victories has long been forgotten. In the most recent four defeats against Lustenau, Ljubljana, Cortina and Asiago, they conceded a whopping 19 goals. It became clear several times how quickly the Vipiteno defense fell apart into its individual parts. The compactness that characterized them at the beginning of the season seems to have been lost. Another weakness is indiscipline: the blue and white cracks have already spent 143 minutes in the cooler this season - one of the worst figures in the league. The result? Most recently, they conceded 2 goals in 5 games when they were outnumbered. With this handicap, no turnaround can be initiated. But if the Broncos should overcome this weakness, be more compact in front of their own goal again and at the same time solve the dilemma with the failures, they can undoubtedly have a lot of confidence in them - they have already proven that in the first phase of the season.
