Big bang at HCB: The goalie has to pack his bags

The HCB has terminated the contract with the 30-year-old Slovakian goalkeeper. He was one of the top performers last season and enjoyed a correspondingly high reputation among the fans. However, his sometimes disappointing performances in the current season have now prompted those responsible for the club to take action.

Climie should do it with NHL experience

However, the 2014 champion has already found a successor. The 34-year-old Canadian Matt Climie is supposed to keep the shop closed in the future. He will train in the Eiswelle for the first time this evening and could make his debut in the home game against Linz on Tuesday.

Climie (191 cm x 88 kg) attracted attention in the NCAA as a teenager when he won two championships with the Bemidij State University ranks. His first six appearances in the AHL with the Iowa Stars followed in 2007/08. The following year he crowned his dream and made three appearances in the NHL with the Dallas Stars. Climie spent most of the season guarding the goal for the Idaho Steeheads in the ECHL and was named “Goalkeeper of the Month” three times with a success rate of 91,5% in the regular season and 92,4% in the playoffs. A year later he joined the Texas Stars in the AHL and made another appearance in the NHL. In the 2010/11 season he moved to San Antonio. In the same year he played another match in the National Hockey League for the Phoenix Coyotes. For the following four seasons he was again under contract in the AHL with the Chicago Wolves. In 2015/16 he moved to Europe for the first time and played in the DEL for the Straubing Tigers, where he showed off big in the playoffs last season with a shot save rate of 95,2%, in the first round against Berlin but couldn't avert it. In his first year in Europe he also won the Spengler Cup with Team Canada. Climie was under contract with HKM Zvolen in Slovakia for the first eleven matches of the current season before he followed the call of the HCB.
