Pirates under new command

With the commitment of 40-year-old Finnish trainer Jarno Mensonen, those responsible at HC Eppan are once again placing their trust in an Italian newcomer. Mensonen has worked in Austria for HC Innsbruck for the last four years.

In the first two years, Jarno Mensonen worked as an assistant coach in the North Tyrolean EBEL team, where he first assisted Pat Cortina and then the unforgettable Ron Kennedy. After Kennedy's health-related retirement, Mensonen took over the team and led it through the National League championship in the last two seasons. In the current season he reached the semi-finals with the Haie, where he had to admit defeat to the current champions VEU Feldkirch in the decisive fifth game.

Mensonen began his coaching career in 2006 in the youth sector of the Finnish club HeKi, where he also ended his active career as a winger in the same year.

The President of HC Eppan Internorm Reinhard Zublasing is very pleased about the commitment: “Jarno Mensonen was right at the top of our favorites list due to his good references, including Pat Cortina and Rem Murray. Since the feeling was right at the first personal meeting, we were able to quickly come to an agreement. I am convinced that he is the right man for our first team.”

Mensonen will come to Eppan for a few days in mid-April to get to know the team.
