Playoff final of Serie A2: Eppan wants to equalize

In game number one last Sunday, spectators were treated to a classic playoff game, with the goalkeepers as the protagonists, two attentive teams and a very tactical style of play. The decision was finally made by TJ Caig, who sealed the victory in the penalty shootout after 80 minutes on the bench. The second encounter will take place tomorrow evening. The game starts at 20.30:XNUMX p.m. in the Eppan ice rink. The home team wants to strike back on Wednesday. Not an easy task considering the Broncos' solidity and organized style of play.

On Sunday the Pirates had to admit defeat to the players from Vipiteno in a penalty shootout. “Of course, such a defeat hurts,” said Eppan goalie Mark Demetz, “It’s a final game, which is why it would be even more important to bring home the point. The teams are tied. We played well on Sunday, working a lot in the neutral zone and giving the opponent little space. However, to win the second game we need to shoot more on goal. I'm confident, the series is long and Eppan has the chance to equalize."

Winning the first game gave the Broncos a lot of confidence. But it wasn't easy for the people of Wipptal. “We had a hard time after the nine-day break,” explains striker Hannes Stofner. “The same thing happened to us in the semi-final against HC Gherdeina. Back then we lost in front of our home crowd (0:3 adR). I think we will improve as the series progresses, but we know that our opponents, with their many strong players, will give us nothing. Winning in Eppan won't be easy, so we have to be more cold-blooded in front of the opponent's goal. We made too many mistakes in the first game.”

Eppan will play in full on Wednesday. Vipiteno will definitely miss the long-term injured Daniel Erlacher and TJ Caig, who has not yet recovered 100% from his thigh strain. However, if there is a penalty shootout again, the striker (who is entered in the player sheet) will be used. If not, coach Oly Hicks will rest Caig as nothing should stand in the way of his definitive return in the third final game on Saturday evening. It is still unclear whether defender Philipp Pircher will make his comeback.
