Pustertal sets standards, Ritten and Bozen on target - an interim balance

HC Pustertal After nine matchdays, the wolves are the measure of all things. They are still unbeaten and comfortably lead the Serie A table. The HCP is the only team that has been completely convincing so far. In addition to the nine wins, neo-coach Paul Adey's team can boast another record: with 37 goals, they have the most dangerous offensive in the league, made up of Joe Cullen (6 goals, 18 assists), Pat Iannone (8 goals, 4 assists) and Joe Jensen (5 goals, 7 assists) stands out. Pustertal has a sophisticated playing system, plenty of experience, a good core of local players and, in Aubin, a sometimes outstanding goalkeeper. The signing of the NHL-experienced Ben Guitè could be the icing on the cake, provided the HCP stays true to its line in the coming months and the emerging euphoria does not spill over into premature championship dreams.

With the recent victories against Bolzano and Milan, Ritten has put an overall positive stamp on this first phase of the season. The “Buam” have now climbed back to third place in the table and are lurking behind Valpellice. Ritten also draws several positive lessons from the first phase of the season. On the one hand, there is the solid defense, which is the second best in the entire league with 17 goals conceded, and the dangerous attack duo around the extremely strong Ramsay and the experienced Daccordo (together 10 goals). On the other hand, goalkeeper Justin Pogge became a real top performer. No other team has conceded fewer goals in front of their home crowd than Ritten, namely just seven. Only Domenico Perna has not yet been able to convince. Although the former Neumarkt striker scored two goals against Bozen and converted the decisive penalty in Milan, he is not yet properly integrated into the Rittner's attack. His development will be under special observation in the coming weeks.

HC Bolzano

The reigning champions have recently put the brakes on their euphoria with two defeats en suite. After several convincing performances, the HCB seemed to be running out of steam in their most recent appearances. However, this doesn't seem surprising considering that Brian McCutcheon has only been able to rely on two pairs of defenders so far. Alex Egger and Christian Borgatello in particular had to work overtime several times. Günther Hell was completely convincing between the posts with the best fan rate in the league of 95,1%. Anton Bernard was particularly impressive in front of the opposing goal, as he has undoubtedly made a leap in quality in recent months. If the White-Reds want to bring the championship title to Galvani-Straße again this season, the club management must act and fill the squad with high-quality players. There is certainly no shortage of possible reinforcements on the international player market.
