Revolution in the A2 series

Last Saturday, at the specially convened Lega meeting, the Serie A clubs agreed on a multi-year plan. This includes promoting local young talent and reducing the number of transfer card players. In the next two years, five foreigners will be allowed per team, and from the 2015/16 season only four will be allowed.

The A2 series takes the big step

However, the significant news comes from the second division, where the clubs have unanimously decided to take a new path. Club representatives have requested a meeting with the Italian Ice Sports Federation to request exemption for an international league. Next season they want to compete with teams from surrounding countries and give new impetus to their activities, mostly in rural areas.

The INL is the goal

The club bosses already have precise plans: They want to join the Austrian Inter-National League. In addition to the Vorarlberg teams Bregenzerwald, Feldkirch and Lustenau, as well as Zell am See, the Slovenian representatives HK Slavija Lubjana and HK Triglav Kanj also play there. Kitzbühel and three other teams from Slovenia will soon be added. In total, the new INL, including the Serie A2 clubs, would then comprise 16 teams. A championship formula would also already be in place: After a round trip, the champions of the individual countries would be determined in a one-week playoff phase before the INL season continued with the round of XNUMX.

Waiting for the FISG's decision The only obstacle to the revolutionary step could prove to be the Italian Ice Sports Federation (FISG), especially since it has always put a stop to similar projects in the past. This time, however, the pressure on the top of the association is not coming from one or two clubs, but from an entire league. Especially since the planning so far has shown itself to be extremely closed and purposeful. As long as no final decisions have been made, Serie A2 champions HC Eppan do not want to choose their league affiliation. So much has already leaked out, immediately after the Lega meeting in Verona.
