Ritten against Asiago: Everything ready for the grand finale - VIDEO

The grand finale is ready. Starting this weekend, the league's two best teams will engage in a thrilling battle for the AHL title. In the semi-final series, the Ritten veterans defeated Cortina 3-1, while Asiago won the series 3-2 with yesterday's home win against Jesenice and thus secured their place in the final.

The “Buam” are now just waiting for the puck to be thrown in on Saturday. So far, the Italian champions have played an almost perfect playoff. In the quarter-finals, the Rittners beat Neumarkt 3-0, and in the semi-finals they retained the upper hand against Cortina 0-1 after being 3-1 down. This means that Lehtonen's team only suffered one defeat in seven games. Rittner's dream in the AHL championship should now continue in the final against Asiago.

Ritten has its sights set on the historic championship title Whoever wins writes a small chapter in ice hockey history. The Sky Alps Hockey League was only launched last summer. The “Buam” were crowned Italian champions for the third time a month ago, and now the season is to be crowned with the AHL title. But Asiago also pursues the same goal. The playoffs started as desired for Tom Barasso's team. In the quarter-finals they managed a “sweep” against Feldkirch and advanced to the semi-finals with a confident 3-0 win. The Slovenes from Jesenice were waiting there. Despite being 2-1 behind, Asiago was able to turn the best-of-five series around and ultimately win 3-2.

The “Buam” is still unbeaten against Asiago this year In the current season, Ritten and Asiago have faced each other a total of five times. They met four times in the AHL. All four games ended with a victory for “Buam”. At the start of the season Ritten won 3-2 in Klobenstein, in January in Asiago 4-1 and 4-3 after extra time and a month ago again in Klobenstein 4-3 in overtime. Ritten also won the Serie A final at the Odegar Stadium. There are further tidbits for statistics fans: the average age in Asiago is 25,33 years, slightly higher than that in Rittner (25,15). Anthony Nigro is the league's top scorer with a total of 63 points (26 goals, 37 assists), while the Italian champions' Swede Victor Ahlström stands out with 55 points.

Unlike the quarter and semi-finals, the final series will be decided in best-of-seven mode. Both teams can draw on their full potential and compete with their best players.

The starting shot for the playoff final of the Sky Alps Hockey League will be fired on Saturday evening at 20.00 p.m. in the Arena Ritten in Klobenstein. There will be a purely Italian duel between Italian champion Ritten and runner-up Asiago.
