Riding to the 2018 Supercup in eight seconds

Both teams had already faced each other last year, with the Lehtonen cracks clearly having the upper hand in the highest-scoring Supercup final with 8:3 goals. In 2006, however, the Lombards were able to hold their own against the Rittners with a score of 6:2. For the Buam, Thursday's final was the eighth Supercup final, the fifth in a row.

The initial phase belonged to the Italian champions. Ritten pushed Milan into their own defense and shot eight times at Martino Valle Da Rin's goal in the first four minutes alone. But exactly at the guests' best moment, the home team took the lead. Former Vipiteno attacker Francis Verreault-Paul converted a pass from Tommaso Terzago to make it 10-1 in the 0th minute. The Lombards' joy lasted just three minutes until Andreas Lutz equalized to make it 1-1 for the Buam. Ritten then took the reins again and turned the game around with the Latvian newcomer Olegs Sislannikovs. The score remained 2-1 until the first break.

Only 3.12:3 minutes had been played in the middle third when it was again Sislannikovs who shot the Rittner 1-27 ahead after a Simon Kostner assist. Milan then increased the tempo and reduced the score to 2:3 in the XNUMXth minute with Guillaume Doucet. A little later, Simone Asinelli even scored the equalizer.

In the final third, Ritten took the lead again with 4:3 with the second newcomer, Henrik Eriksson, but immediately afterwards Andreas Lutz had to go to the penalty box for two minutes. Milan only had one minute in the power play to equalize again with Tommaso Terzago. In the final minutes both teams closed at the back, so this exciting match went into extra time.

Here Ritten once again showed his incredible experience. Only eight seconds were enough for Lehtonen's team to win. It was captain Dan Tudin who scored after a pass from Lutz Ritten. The Rittners are extremely happy as they secure the Supercup for the fourth time, the second in a row. The team from Klobenstein, together with HC Bozen, is now the record winner of this cup.

The Supercup final in the Agorà Stadium in Milan ended with a narrow 4:5 win for the Rittner Buam against hosts Milano Rossoblù after extra time. With this victory, Ritten won the Supercup for the fourth time in the club's history.
