Ritten wants to cause a sensation at the Continental Cup

A total of four teams will compete for the coveted title at the final of the Continental Cup this weekend. The Rittner Buam, who could make ice hockey history, are also there.

An Italian team has never won the cup

In 2002, Milan came second behind Zurich. But that was the best result by an Italian ice hockey team in the Continental Cup. Now the Rittner Buam want to be the first to achieve this feat. But for that to happen, things have to go better than last year. At that time, Ritten was also in the final, but ultimately only came fourth.

In Belarus, Ritten coach Riku-Petteri Lethonen can again rely on Bretton Stamler and Kyle Jean. However, Canadian defender Stamler, who has been training at Ritten for a few days, will miss the first game against Minsk. He received a suspension in the semi-final.

Only Sheffield and Minsk could play in the Champions League

In addition to the Rittner Buam and the local heroes Yunost Minsk, the Sheffield Steelers and Nomad Astana will also take part in the Continental Cup final. Normally the winner of the cup gets to play in the Champions League next season. Because the AHL, where Ritten plays, is classified as the second Austrian league, Ritten would not be eligible to participate. Astana, which operates as a farm club for KHL club Barys Astana, was also not allowed to play in the Champions League. If the two-time English champions Sheffield or Minsk win the final, they would be there.

Ritten opens the final

The first final game will take place early on Friday afternoon. Ritten meets Minsk at 13 p.m. Central European Time. The duel with Astana is on the agenda for Christian Borgatello & Co. on Saturday. At the end on Sunday, the Rittner Buam have to play against Sheffield.
