Ritten shatters the Puster final dreams

In the well-filled Ritten Arena there was a real playoff atmosphere right from the start, even though both teams started the game with the handbrake on. The home side tried to shape the game, but the visitors' defense initially held tight. Kostner missed the first good chance. Ritten then waited patiently for his opportunities, which finally arose in the first power play: Kuhn was able to fend off a shot from Johansson, but Rissmiller was wide awake and pushed the rebound over the line. On the other side, Berzins hit the post from close range. A little later, Ritten showed how to do it better and increased the lead to 2-0 after a Puster loss in the neutral zone. It was Ansoldi who didn't need to be asked twice and let Kuhn lose out again. HCP coach Richer reacted and brought his protégés to the boards. However, the timeout had little effect, as Ritten continued to dictate the action and did not allow the Bruneck parade block around Scandella, Oberrauch and Devos to find their way into the game.

In the second third, the Wolves tried to react, but they still lacked the necessary penetration in their build-up to the game. The reigning title holder had little trouble keeping the puck away from their own goal. A duel developed that was largely unworthy of a semi-final and was particularly bitter for the numerous fans in yellow and black who had traveled with them. Only Oberrauch, who fought tirelessly, was able to show off from time to time. It took almost 16 minutes until the first significant chance in the second period: Rissmiller pushed the hard rubber disc towards the goal, but it didn't make it over the line. A short time later, Scandella missed the big chance to reduce the score to 1:2. His team then stayed on the trigger, but repeatedly failed because of Weinhandl.

Scandella's hit comes too late

The final 20 minutes of the game were characterized by tactics and mistakes on both sides. The HCP cracks wasted all their energy reserves trying to crack the Rittner defense bar. The hosts' goalkeeper rarely had to intervene. The Buam, for their part, were waiting for a counterattack, but did not manage to bring about the decision early. So things got heated and exciting again in the final phase. Because in the last minute, Pustertal took the goalkeeper off the ice and Scandella promptly hit the mark. At this point, however, there were only 22 seconds left to play - not enough to initiate a successful comeback and avert the Wolves' early end to the season.

Defending champion Ritten Sport follows Asiago into the Serie A final! The Buam put on a confident performance in the sixth semi-final duel against Pustertal and won 2-1. So the Wolves won't be able to win the long-awaited championship title this year either.
