Rob Wilson confirmed as Ritten Sport coach

The Canadian, who was born in Toronto on July 18, 1968 and also has an English passport, played as a player in various Canadian and English leagues. The 43-year-old also played eight games in Vipiteno in the 2001/2002 season and managed eight points (1 goal, 7 assists).

The coach, known as a “tough dog,” began his coaching career in the 2006/07 season as a player-coach with the Newcastle Vipers in the EIHL and at the same time was assistant coach of the British national ice hockey team, for which he wore the jersey at six World Championships. Wilson held these two tasks until the end of the 2009/10 season. This was followed by a move to the second Italian league, where he took over HC Neumarkt at the beginning of the 2010/11 sporting year.

In the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons, Rob Wilson played 87 games with the Wild Geese, celebrated 68 wins with his team and only had to leave the ice as a loser 19 times. In his first season with the Unterlandlers, Wilson finished the regular season in second place and, with a team that was severely reduced due to injuries, lost 4-2 in the play-off quarter-finals against Kaltern.

The following year was even more successful for the Neumarktners with coach Wilson - but they didn't win any titles. They managed 42 wins in 36 games and won the regular season comfortably. In the semi-finals of the knockout round, the Wild Geese were defeated by Val Gardena (3:4). In the seventh and decisive game, Wilson's troops suffered a bitter 3-4 defeat after extra time in the Würth Arena at home.

This year the “Buam” with Wilson on the boards played a very strong first half, which they finished in first place before being eliminated from the playoffs early in the quarter-finals against Cortina. The Rittners lost out in the seventh and decisive game at home.

At Ritten, Wilson will work alongside Roberto Scelfo as the new assistant coach next season. "The previous youth manager and U20 assistant coach was able to get a taste of Serie A1 air as an assistant coach several times this season when he represented Marko Leinonen. As a player, he was a regular goalkeeper at Ritten for years in the 1990s before starting his active playing career in Vipiteno and Turin ended," concludes the press release from Ritten Sport.

Rob Wilson confirmed as Ritten Sport coach
