Serie A: Asiago is Italian champion for the fourth time

In this important game, the home team had to give up Nate DiCasmirro, who was sidelined by the sports referee for one match day. Pietro Canale returned to the team and Jaroslav Spelda was preferred over Paul Baier. At Asiago, defender Dan Sullivan returned to the team.

The club from Piedmont started off strong. Coach Flanagan set up Brian Ihnacak in the first block and the number 64 set up nicely for Rob Sirianni, who tested the opposing goalie for the first time. It didn't take long for the guests to respond. Bentivoglio picked up the pace and Spelda could only stop the attacker with a foul. After four and a half minutes, Sirianni made things better for the Bulldogs. He gave Plante the loss with his 17th goal of the playoffs. The home team's joy didn't even last three minutes, as Layne Ulmer restored the stalemate. The equalizer spurred Valpellice on, but Asiago's goalkeeper proved an insurmountable hurdle. And so a little later the men from Veneto took the lead. Borrelli scored after Parise's defense was too short. In the final phase, Plante was on hand for a chance from Sirianni, while Borrelli struck ice-cold on the other side and made it 3-1.

The second third began with a bang, as after 32 seconds Ihnacak brought the home team back to 2-3. And it got even better for the Bulldogs, who tied it just 58 seconds later with Nick Anderson. Spelda pulled away from the blue line, the puck hit the boards and jumped from there in front of the goal where Anderson was there. Intranuovo Valpe could have even taken the lead in the 25th minute. But anyone who thought that Asiago would allow himself to be bought off was mistaken. Because in the 28th minute the Parco team took the lead again. Ulmer made it 4-3 at the Valmora Arena Cotta Morandini with his second goal of the evening. A little later, Anderson had the equalizer on his stick, but Plante made a brilliant save when he shot from point-blank range. The 4:4 was in the air and after 33.47 minutes Jaroslav Spelda scored the advantage. He gave the Asiago goalie a pass with a remarkable and extremely precise shot from a distance. Afterwards, Sean Bentivoglio had a high-caliber shot, but he missed. After 38.03 minutes, Intranuovo served Aquino perfectly, who turned the Valmora Arena into a madhouse with the score 5:4.

In the third period Valpellice tried to narrow the spaces. Asiago, on the other hand, pressed for the equalizer but failed to score anything. The attack efforts were too harmless. In the 48th minute, Sean Bentivoglio had a good chance, which Jordan Parise canceled out with a daring save. The home team's answer came with the first block, but none of the three attackers could overcome Plante. When the Bulldogs were already speculating that they would win, Asiago struck coldly. Ulmer with a nice pass to Bentivoglio, who just had to hold out the bat. Asiago could have scored the winning goal in the last two minutes of the game with one more man, but Parise outgrew himself.

The extra time hadn't even really started before it was already over. Layne Ulmer scored the winning goal after just 22 seconds, giving Asiago its fourth championship title. The template came from Jeremy Rebek. Afterwards, the joy at the club from Veneto knew no bounds, the players celebrated wildly on the ice rink in Torre Pellice.

Serie A: Asiago is Italian champion for the fourth time

Layne Ulmer shot Asiago to its fourth title in the club's history on Saturday evening. The club from Veneto, which eliminated HC Bozen and Pusterer Wölfe in the playoff, won the fifth final 6-5 after extra time. Asiago won the series 4-1.
