Serie A: Bolzano at the top of the table after a derby win against Pustertal

It was Valpellice's second win in a row, but the club from Piedmont struggled against the Broncos. In the end it was 4-2 in the derby for Bolzano, who prevailed in a spectacular game in front of a large crowd. Fassa and Asiago fought until the penalty shootout, as did Ritten and Alleghe. And Pontebba celebrated a convincing nil-nil win against old champions Cortina.

Valpellice hosted Vipiteno on Thursday. The team from Wipptal is currently in excellent shape. Four players were missing on both sides: Regan, Frigo, Canale and Huddy for the team from Piedmont, while the Broncos had to give up Lee, Bustreo, Gander and Erlacher. The opening phase belonged to the guests, but the home team took the lead when Pozzi Tragust lost out. The guests didn't give up and were able to equalize with Lanz in the final phase of the first third. The two teams cleverly neutralized each other in the middle third – until the 35th minute. After the face-off, Southern played directly to Ginand, who sank the puck to give the visitors a 2-1 lead. Trevor Johnson's equalizer only took exactly 100 seconds to come. The score went into the second break with this score. Less than three minutes had been played in the third period when Runer made it 3-2 for Valpellice. The score remained this way until the final siren.

Bolzano invited the wolves to the ice wave for their 159th derby. For both teams it was important points in the fight for the top of the table. Bruun was missing from the Füchse, while the guests from Pustertal had to present Bona, DiCasmirro, Glira, Crepaz, Ling and Mair. This gave the young Puster native plants a chance. The Wolves initially had the lead thanks to a remarkable move by the Jensen-Tauber axis, but the hosts started to celebrate the goal. After good chances for McCutcheon, Borgatello and Edwardson, it was Mc Gregor Sharp who, after great interaction with Knackstedt, beat Strömberg in the 12.13 minute to make it 1-0. Almost two and a half minutes later, captain Alexander Egger increased the score to 2-0 after a wonderful counterattack with Stefano Giliati. In the middle third, the Bolzano captain was there again and increased it to 3-0, but Giulio Scandella scored the much-celebrated goal in the ice wave after just 71 seconds with a shot into the near corner for the much-celebrated goal among the numerous supporters of the Puster club who had traveled with them. Pustertal remained in control afterwards, but Bolzano's defense was very good. Meyers and Bernard missed two more good opportunities for the hosts in the final minutes of the middle third. In the final period of the game, Anton Bernard made it 4-1 after just under five minutes after a pass from McCutcheon. Four minutes before the end of the game there was also a mass brawl instigated by Thomas Eralcher. The Puster striker then had to take a shower early. Joe Jensen shortened the score in the final phase, but the Wolves couldn't do more. Bolzano won 4-2 and took command of the table with the victory.

Buoyed by the win against Alleghe, Fassa took on Asiago on Thursday, which is in a serious crisis. The home side were without Locatin, Martin and Christian Castlunger, while John Tucker was unable to call on Grieco, Zamparo, Pitton and Stevan. The game started as expected for Asiago, as Henrich was there in the ninth minute of the game. Seven seconds before the first third siren, Margoni scored the much-celebrated equalizer. Both teams had several good chances in the second third, but Fassa took the lead with a double strike in just 24 seconds. First, Luca Planchesteiner increased the score to 2-1 before Trevor Kell scored Fassan's third goal. Although Borrelli shortened the score, the referee canceled the goal. In the final third, events came to a head. Borelli first shortened the score before Michael Henrich equalized. And things got even worse for Fassa, as Fata now gave Asiago the lead. Stefano Margoni equalized again in the 55.04 minute. After the goalless extra time it went to a penalty shootout, where Asiago had the better end. Vigilante and Henrich scored for the guests, but no player for the home side could put the puck in the goal.

Continuity. That is the magic word, the stated goal of the Holst team, which finally seems to have taken the “right” path after a very bumpy start to the season. On Thursday the Buam were missing Graham and Eisath. On the other hand, Alleghe, which has to do without Nicola Fontanive and Jari Monferone. The guests started without much respect and caused one or two tricky situations. However, the home team took the lead through Lorenz Daccordo, who made the Ritten fans cheer in the 17.12 minute. A few moments later May could have made it 2-0, but failed. The hosts' narrow lead not only lasted until the first third siren, but Ritten Sport's narrow lead remained unchanged in the second half of the game. Greg Hogeboom equalized midway through the final period. It remained 1-1 until the final siren and no goal was scored in extra time. In the penalty shootout, the Buam had the better end, with Scott May scoring the decisive penalty.

Pontebba and Cortina entered the direct duel with a defeat from the previous game. The Friulians were in full force, but Coach Mair was missing four regulars at Crotina: Hennigar, Bowman, Menardi and Baur. It was Cortina who had the first good chance, but Moser's shot deflected Petizian onto the post. The home team reacted and could rely on DeVergilio, who kept his nerve in the power play (18.21). Pontebba tasted blood and finally turned to victory in the second third. Ihnacak with a brace within 59 seconds and a little later Slavomir Tonko put the home team 4-0 ahead. The score remained at this level in the final part of the game and the team from Friuli deservedly won the game. Petizian stopped all 26 shots fired at his goal and celebrated a shutout, his third of the season.

Valpellice brought Sterzing to its knees on matchday 22 in Serie A. The South Tyrolean derby between Bolzano and Pustertal went to the foxes. Asiago prevailed against Fassa in a nail-biting thriller. Ritten brought Alleghe to its knees in the penalty shootout and Pontebba made short work of Cortina.
