Serie A: The Rittner Buam are eager for the final against Asiago

In the 2009/2010 season, Asiago and Ritten faced each other in the final for the Italian championship title for the last and first time to date. Now, five years later, it's that time again. The first game of the best-of-seven series will take place in the Odegar Stadium, as the club from Veneto was ranked better in the table at the end of the Master Round than the team from the South Tyrolean plateau. Bentivoglio and Co. will also enjoy home advantage in a possible seventh game.

In order to successfully defend the historic title they won last year, the Rittner Buam have to achieve at least one away win and hope that everything goes smoothly at home. Not an easy undertaking for Ramsey and Co., who still don't feel under pressure before game one. “Asiago is a good team with three balanced lines, which they proved against Milan. It will be a tough series, but we are in good spirits, will try everything and don't feel any pressure. We have already achieved our goal for the season. What's next is an encore. Ultimately I think we will win because we have a great team,” says Lorenz Daccordo confidently.

The two teams have given each other nothing in the season so far. In the four meetings, Asiago and Ritten secured two wins each. The team from Veneto made the better impression in the regular season (second place, tied on points with leaders Pustertal, who were ahead in the direct duels in the basic round) and the Master Round (first place), while the Rittner Buam especially were there in the crucial moments, such as in the Italian Cup.

A clear favorite cannot be identified before the finale, which begins on Thursday, and nothing should stand in the way of an exciting series. What will make the difference will be the details and the attentiveness with which the two teams will approach their respective games in the final round. “I expect a head-to-head race as both teams have a large squad and have already been in the final. The motto is to play cleverly and disciplined. If we play the way we are capable of and score the goals up front, I think we have the better cards,” explains Eric Johansson.
