Series A2: The hunt for league leaders Eppan is on again

HC Eppan Sarah With the victory after a penalty shootout against Kaltern, HC Eppan Sarah must have gained a lot of self-confidence. The Überetscher lead the table with three points ahead of Neumarkt and four points ahead of Kaltern. A lead that allows the Pirates to enjoy their position in the table without pressure for the moment. Jarno Mensonen's team will face the players from Pergine in the distance on Friday, with the intention of confidently defending first place. On Sunday evening, Ceresa and Co. will host the team from Vipiteno in front of their home crowd in the top game of the 16th matchday. Patrick Wallenberg certainly won't be on the ice, but the club is hoping to use young striker Jan Waldner on Sunday, who has been training with the team again since Tuesday.

SV Kaltern Rothoblaas For the SV Kaltern Rothoblaas players who are mourning the lost points against Eppan, the first thing they need to do is forget their most recent defeat. The Hechte are in third place in the table, four points behind the Pirates, and in order not to lose touch, they need to bring more continuity to their results. Kaltern has to play at home against Merano on Friday evening. Spectators can expect a meeting between two of the league's strongest teams. And on Sunday too, the Überetscher will try to build on the home advantage when they host HC Gherdeina. As far as the lineups are concerned, there is good news for the Kalterer team: Daniel Spinell has started training again and could make some short appearances on Friday evening.

HC Neumarkt Riwega After two defeats in a row, the last of which was in Vipiteno, HC Neumarkt Riwega wants to get back to winning ways this weekend. Before HC Eppan defeated the Unterlanders on November 4th, they celebrated six triumphs in a row and in the table the Wildgänse are still close on the heels of the team from Eppan, three points behind. In addition, Joe West's boys have the strongest attack in the second highest Italian ice hockey league with 53 goals scored. On Friday evening, the Neumarkt team will be playing at HC Gherdeina in the Pranives Stadium in Wolkenstein. On Saturday, however, they will cross paths with Pergine's players, who won 2-0 in the first direct duel of the season and took three points from the Würth Arena. Neumarkt will have to do without Marian Zelger, who was suspended for two match days.

HC Gherdeina The defeat against Meran stopped HC Gherdeina's attempt to climb higher in the table. The Ladins have lost eight of the last nine matches, with the many failures being the main reason. When the Red-Blues face the team from Neumarkt on Friday, they want to leave the Pranives Stadium in Wolkenstein with their heads held high. On Sunday Thomas Kostner's boys will be guests in Kaltern. However, the club still has a few absences: Fabrizio Senoner and Oliver Schenk will definitely be missing, while it is still unclear whether Ivan Demetz will be on the ice. Marco Senoner, on the other hand, will most likely appear on the roster, but he will not be in the starting lineup.

HC Meran Pircher The win against HC Gherdeina breathed new life into HC Meran Pircher. The Passerstädter are currently in fifth place in the table, level on points with Vipiteno. The Eagles are growing from game to game and are looking for confirmation, which is reflected in the three successes they have achieved in a row. On Friday evening, the Burggräfler will meet Kaltern in the big match of the 15th match day and Ansoldi and Co. will also have to travel further afield on Sunday (at EV Bozen). However, goalie Vincenzo Marozzi has said goodbye to the spa town and will play again for the first division team from Asiago from Thursday. Asiago sent the young Alessandro Tura as a replacement, at least for Friday evening. “We are in contact with some goalkeepers and will find a solution shortly,” said President Patrick König. Vincenzo Marozzi was tesserated by Meran at the start of the season, but if Asiago (the club that effectively signed the goalkeeper's employment contract) does not hire another goalkeeper, Marozzi will remain at the plateau until the end of the season.

Pergine Solarplus After the game against EV Bozen was not played on Sunday, Pergine will be hunting for points this weekend. Coach Marco Liberatore's boys, who still have to make do without Davide Mantovani, will be on the ice at home against HC Eppan on Friday evening. On Sunday, however, the Trentino team want to thwart Joe West's team in the Würth Arena. The team from Pergine won their most recent home game on October 31st when they defeated HC Gherdeina 5-2.

EV Bolzano 84 Groupon EV Bozen 84 hasn't had an easy week. “We were only able to complete one training session, so a tough weekend awaits us. Although we are trying to solve the stadium problem, the return to the Sill will still take some time,” explains President Günther Ebnicher. Fred Carroll's team will welcome WSV Sterzing Weihenstephan in the Eiswelle on Friday and they will also play in front of their home crowd on Sunday, namely in the game against Meran. The white and blue have not lost at home since October 12th. As far as the roster is concerned, it is still uncertain whether Christian Timpone can be used. Meanwhile, the team has to compensate for the loss of goalie Marcello Platè, who will be replaced by Federico Tesini.

WSV Vipiteno Weihenstephan

Last matchday the Broncos celebrated a deserved and hard-fought win at home against Neumarkt. However, in order to get closer to the top of the table, the Wipptalers have to stay on the winning road. As we all know, the key to success is continuity. On Friday evening the Broncos have to compete in the Eiswelle in Bolzano, and on Sunday Coach Hicks' boys will also play away: in the key game of the 16th match day they will face the team from Eppan. Luca Scardoni, Alex Lanz and Daniel Erlacher will be missing due to injury, while the possible return of Gunnar Braito and Hannes Stofner is highly doubtful.
