Eppan went into the game as the clear favorite and ultimately clearly beat Meran with 3-1 goals. The “Pirates” had already won five of the six season duels against the Passerstädter team in the regular season. Eppan coach Jarno Mensonen was able to make full use of the team today; Eisenstecken, Martini and Tomasi were also in the squad. Meran, on the other hand, received additional reinforcements from the Vipiteno farm team in the form of Daniel Erlacher. The home team took the lead after just 107 seconds with Hannes Hofer. The Merano team responded promptly: just 48 seconds later, Swedish defender Viktor Wallin equalized to make it 1-1. In the 8.07 minute, Philipp Platter gave Eppan the lead for the second time. The “Pirates” then set the pace, but were only able to increase the lead to 27.41-3 in the 1 minute with captain David Ceresa. In the final third, Eppan controlled the encounter and secured their first victory. Game 2 of the best-of-five series takes place on Sunday at 18 p.m. in Merano.

HC Gröden, fourth in the table after the regular round, hosted fifth-placed Pergine. Only six points separated the two opponents after 42 match days. The previous six direct duels were also quite even. Val Gardena won the first four games and the league newcomer won the last two. And today it was very exciting again. Val Gardena was 27-0 down until the 2th minute, but then won with 5-3 goals. The hero of the evening was Jamie Schaafsma, who scored three goals. The Ladiners were missing Moroder, Marco Senoner and Wanker, while the Trentino team had to do without Bosetti, DeToni and Accarino. Coach Marco Liberatore also sent Todd Jackson to the stands as a surplus foreigner. Pergine got off to a dream start: Troy Barnes gave the guests the lead in the 5.59 minute. Just 76 seconds later, Stefano Piva increased the score to 2-0 on a pass from Tombolato. Val Gardena tried to react, but was repeatedly thwarted by the excellent guest goalkeeper Thomas Commisso. In the middle third the game got tougher and referee Massimo De Col had to award a total of 26 penalty minutes. In the 27.08 minute Jamie Schaafsma reduced the score to 1:2 following a pass from Wallenberg, six minutes later Kevin Senoner equalized to 2:2 when he was outnumbered. It stayed that way until the last break. In the final third, Schaafsma gave the home team the lead for the first time, but Davide Mantovani equalized in the 50.41 minute to make it 3-3. Four minutes before the end of the game, Pontus Moren and Fabrizio Fontanive had to go to the penalty box at the same time and Jamie Schaafsma took advantage of the double advantage to make it 4:3. Liberatore took goalkeeper Commisso off the ice for a sixth skater in the final minute, but to no avail. On the contrary, Kevin Senoner scored into the empty goal to make the final score 5:3.
