Simon Löf shouldn't just mix concrete at the Broncos

The right-wing shooter from Gävle, born in 1991, is 188 cm tall and weighs 86 kg and has good physical qualities for a defender. He is also a strong ice skater with very good mobility. The statistics hide his full offensive potential, as he has so far had to make do with the role of a defensive defender in addition to better offensive abilities.

"Both the first pass in the build-up game as well as his eye for his teammate and his good shot in the power play make him a strong all-rounder, which exactly corresponds to the requirements of the wild horses," says the Vipiteno team.

Simon Löf grew up at the traditional club Brynäs and was part of the extended selection of the Tre Kronor junior national teams from the U16 to the U20. In Brynäs' senior team he was able to get more than just a taste of the Elitserien and SHL. There he usually played in the second pair of defenders as a defensive man alongside a strong offensive partner. In total, the 25-year-old all-rounder was on the ice in an impressive 185 regular-season games and 26 playoff games in the top Swedish league, in which he scored 5 goals, provided 10 assists and collected 64 penalty minutes.

In his first full season in the Allsvenskan he played for Södertälje and was a teammate of former HCP crack Francois Bouchard. However, the seven-time Swedish champions had a disastrous season and ended up being relegated to the 1st Division, completely unexpectedly, whereupon Löf moved to the second division club Vita Hästen. Together with two previous stints with Mora and Almtuna, the neo-Bronco has made 134 appearances in the regular season and 20 playoff games, in which he scored four goals, provided 19 assists and received 96 penalty minutes.

Contact with Löf came about through the two youth coaches Johan Kämpe and Fredrik Fahlstedt. The two “reindeers” at the Broncos recommended him as a good all-rounder who, as already mentioned, is an insider tip in the offense and can fully develop his potential in this area in the AHL.

Simon Löf wants to use the Broncos as a springboard for a European career outside his home country and sees the Alps Hockey League as an ideal platform to demonstrate his skills: “It will certainly be great fun to play in the new Alps Hockey League and in to play in a new country. I had a good feeling about the Broncos from the first moment and have only heard good things about the club and the city of Vipiteno. I’m looking forward to the season and the Broncos are the perfect opportunity for me to become a better hockey player.”

Löf will wear the number 5 jersey for the Wild Horses.
