Spectacle in the ice wave: Bolzano brings down the leader

The almost 3800 spectators in the ice wave saw a dream start from the Pokel team: After 26 seconds of play, Reid was in the right spot at the end of a puck relay over Oleksuk and Frigo and scored to make it 1-0. However, Bolzano's lead only lasted a few moments, as Schofield made it 1-1 with a hidden shot in the fourth minute. As a result, both teams had a few opportunities, but only the guests scored the goals: First, DaSilva scored to make it 2-1, before Potulny made it 3-1 through the guards of HCB goalie Melichercik. Until the end of the third, Bolzano continued to set the tone, but nothing changed in the score for the time being - the spectacular opening period ended with the Austrians taking a two-goal lead.

Shortly after the restart, Linz even increased the lead to 4:1 with a dream combination via Lebler and Potulny, which DaSilva completed. Despite the clear deficit, Egger and Co. didn't give up - on the contrary: with the advantage, Insam reduced the score to 2:4, then it was Palmieri who - also with one more man on the ice - made it 3:4. The “Foxes” were now more and more in control and rewarded themselves with the equalizer after just over half an hour: Oleksuk served Vallerand with a strong pass, the French-Canadian thanked him and hammered the target under the crossbar to make it 4-4. After the eighth goal of the game, Moderer and Loik found two good chances for Linz and Reid for Bozen, but they remained unused. As a result, the game calmed down a bit, so that the score went into the third break at 4:4.

The last 20 minutes began with a shot from Linz's Lebler. After this wake-up call, the HCB took command and had the best opportunities in two outnumbered situations, but were unable to convert them into goals. Linz, on the other hand, weakened themselves with further penalties and thus gave the “Foxes” more chances to score. Six minutes before the end and after - from Bozen's point of view - an infinite number of high-class players left behind, the time had come: Kearney moved the puck from the back boards in front of the goal, where he placed the puck in the far corner - the HCB had thus turned the game around. Ultimately, nothing changes in the score until the end. The Pokel team cleverly defended their narrow lead and secured the not undeserved 5:4 victory.
