Vipiteno relies on two South Tyrolean goalies

Born in Bolzano, Gianluca Vallini comes to the Broncos from league rivals Val Gardena and will wear number 35 for the Wild Horses. Vallini is 23 years old, 182 cm tall, weighs 78 kg and has been an established goalie in the top Italian league for four seasons now. After his youth at EV Bozen and two stints overseas at South Kent High School in the North American high school league USHS, “Jonny” joined HC Fassa, where he played 37 games in two seasons. In 2014/15 he started the season between the posts with his hometown club EV Bozen in Serie B, but then moved to HC Eppan in Serie A. In the last two seasons Vallini played for the arch-rivals from Val Gardena. Although he also played in top form in the 2016 quarter-final series against the Puster Wolves and saved 92,3% of all shots, the Val Gardena team had no chance and had to give in in five games. In the last AHL season, the Ladins missed out on making the playoffs, but Vallini was able to celebrate two shutouts, just like in the previous season. His good performances were rewarded with a call-up to the national team, where he was allowed to travel to the World Cup in Cologne as the third goalkeeper.

Steinmann, with his regular number 83, has been with the Broncos team for 12 seasons now. Since his senior debut in 2005/06, the soon-to-be 28-year-old goalie from Mauls has played 82 games for the first team, including 8 in the 2016 playoffs, when he replaced the injured Mark Demetz excellently and saved 92,6% of all shots. Last year he served as Ty Rimmer's backup, who was not confirmed by the club's management.

There has been speculation about this for a long time, but now it is certain: newcomer Gianluca Vallini and Dominik Steinmann will form the Broncos' goaltending team in the next AHL season.
