Tomas Duba: “I came to Bolzano to win!”

After seven months away from competition, Tomas Duba wants to prove himself again in the demanding atmosphere of HC Bozen. “After this long time, I am very happy to finally be able to put on the mask and lace up the protectors again. “I came to Bolzano to celebrate great successes,” Duba makes no secret of his ambitions. The 31-year-old from Prague is also urgently needed by the reigning champions after they had an extremely slow start to the season.

The experienced goalkeeper from the Czech Republic has no problems adapting: “I have played in many different cities and countries. I'm sure it won't take any getting used to in Bolzano. Especially since HCBum is a club with an extremely good reputation. I'm looking forward to Italian ice hockey." Duba has played in the top Finnish and Czech leagues in the past and also played in the KHL. “The time in Russia was the absolute highlight of my career so far. The KHL plays at a very high level. It’s a shame that the adventure was over after just a year.”

Duba wants to show everyone Before signing his contract with HC Bozen, Duba obtained a lot of information about local ice hockey. For example, he asked Ladislav Benysek (formerly at Fassa, Kaltern, Asiago and Valpellice) for advice. “He assured me that the quality in Italy was very high. I also know my compatriot Petr Sachl from Pontebba. I know that there are several excellent goalkeepers playing in Italy, but I don't shy away from comparing them." When asked about his strengths, he confidently pours out: "My reflexes and my speed between the posts set me apart. In addition, I rarely let the puck bounce and therefore prevent dangerous follow-up shots.”

On Thursday evening, Duba, who is married to a Finn and has a three-and-a-half-year-old daughter, will make his debut in the derby against Ritten. The main focus is already on the Continental Cup. “I haven't found my best form yet, but that should sort itself out with the upcoming training sessions. I'm already excited about the international assignment next week. I know my three Czech compatriots from Landshut (defenders Toupal and Grof, as well as striker Mrazek) inside out. They guarantee the highest quality. Nevertheless, it would be a real shame not to make it to the final in a home stadium as beautiful as the Eiswelle. We will do everything we can to achieve this goal.”

The Füchse's new goalkeeper has arrived in the state capital and will make his debut on Thursday in the explosive duel against Ritten Sport. He is already full of energy: “I finally want to play and prove my quality. For me the only thing that matters is winning, the rest is uninteresting.”
