Transfer bomb before the start of the EBEL: Bozen brings NHL experience on board

The last newcomer is a big fish, namely 26-year-old Canadian Mike Halmo, who played 6 seasons in the AHL and 20 games in the NHL with the New York Islanders. On the other hand, the try-out contract with the Dane Morten Poulsen was terminated.

Mike Halmo (179 cm x 95 kg) is a winger who is characterized by fine technique, but at the same time also has an uncompromising fighting heart and is therefore considered a hard worker on the ice. The Canadian made his professional debut in the OHL in 2008 with the Owen Sound Attack. He stayed there for four years and experienced the following successes: He became captain of the team, scored 181 points in 273 games and won the championship in 2010/11.

730 penalty minutes in the OHL and 488 in the AHL The following season he made five appearances in the AHL with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, although he was still playing in the OHL. Another year later he had his breakthrough: Always wearing the Tigers jersey, he collected 33 goals and 10 assists in 8 games. These performances enabled him to make the jump to the NHL with the New York Islanders, where he scored his first goal in the world's top league in 20 games. He continued to play with Bridgeport that same year and the two following years. He moved to the Syracuse Crunch in 2016-17 and recorded 28 points in 69 games. After a total of 286 matches and 141 points scored, he is now leaving the American Hockey League to start a new adventure in Europe with the Foxes jersey. This gives Halmo the opportunity to bring his entire class, but also his energy, into the EBEL: 730 penalty minutes in the OHL and a further 488 in the AHL speak volumes.

“My expectations are to play in a competitive team this year,” these were Halmo’s first words as a White Red, “I’m really dying to get involved in the game and help the Foxes win as many games as possible.”

“Halmo is a complete player,” analyzes coach Pat Curcio, “he will certainly be one of the main players in the entire league. He is also a dangerous goal getter and assist provider, an excellent skater, a leader and will also help us a lot in penalty killing. He plays with heart and that is extremely important in ice hockey.”
