Crazy championship duel: Bozen loses to Salzburg in a penalty shootout

The HCB cracks traveled to the city of Mozart with the intention of achieving their first victory since the legendary championship coup on April 13, 2014 in the Salzburg Ice Arena. After an initial period of pressure from the home team, Toni Bernard gave the Foxes a 1-0 lead. He deflected a Pollastrone shot unstoppably in the 13th minute. HCB as if intoxicated

The HCB was not impressed by this and launched a powerful counterattack. Within three minutes, the White-Reds moved ahead to 4-1. Matt Pope and Markus Gander successfully completed two quick counterattacks before Jerry Pollastrone made it 4-1 in the power play after a shot from Alex Egger. The reigning champions didn't know what was happening to them at all at that point, the HCB caused such a stir in the opposing defense. Salzburg replaced goalie Gracnar with former Rittner Weinhandl. However, he initially had little to do because his teammates on the other side were fighting for the connection. Ben Walter lost out to HCB goalkeeper Hübl for the second time in the 30th minute, but Brian Fahey scored after 36 minutes.

The Bulls turn around a 1:4 deficit

Salzburg had now really tasted blood and sensed its chance to turn the tables. And that's how it happened, because Dominique Heinrich equalized in the 49th minute before Red Bull newcomer Pehr Ledin made it 5:4 five minutes later. But anyone who thought that the foxes' necks had been broken was far wrong. Because Bozen mobilized the last reserves of strength and scored the equalizer that was no longer thought possible 42 seconds before the end. Joel Broda didn't give Weinhandl a chance. So both teams had to go into overtime.

When this passed without incident, the penalty shootout had to make the decision. There Konstantin Komarik finally sealed the champions' first win of the season. Bolzano, on the other hand, remains stuck in the bottom third of the table with four points.
