The Rittner had to do without the long-term injured Radovan Gabri in the important opening game of the cup, while Jesenice was able to draw on everything. The home team got off to a dream start and took the lead after just 91 seconds with Andreas Lutz, who made it 1-0 with a powerful shot from the blue line. Ritten followed up in the ninth minute: defender Imants Lescovs danced past the entire Jesenice defense and beat goalie Clarke Saunders to make it 2-0. But that wasn't enough, because in the 12th minute, goalkeeper Alex Frei made it 3-0 on the counterattack. The “Buam” dominated to a T, while the guests didn’t do anything together.

36 seconds after the break, Ritten was able to celebrate again. Henrik Eriksson outwitted Saunders to make it 4-0 and the match was decided. A little later, captain Dan Tudin also entered the top scorer list. After this goal, goalkeeper Saunders called it a day. In the 29th minute it was Tudin again who made it 6-0. Shortly afterwards, Simon Kostner from Val Gardena was given a 5+20 minute match ban for sticking. Jesenice took advantage the power play and scored the consolation goal with Luka Kalan making it 1:6. Goalie Thomas Tragust, who was able to defuse 40 shots from the Slovenians, was voted man of the match.

With this victory, Ritten also takes over the lead in the table along with Budapest. The Hungarians also clearly defeated Belgrade with 8-0 goals in the afternoon. Next opponent Belgrade On Saturday at 20 p.m. there will be a duel between Ritten and Belgrade in Klobenstein. Jesenice, on the other hand, will face Budapest at 16 p.m. With another win, Ritten could take a giant leap towards the semi-finals. Only the first place player advances to a round.

The Rittner Buam made a perfect debut in the second round of the Continental Cup on Friday evening. In Klobenstein, Ritten clearly defeated their Slovenian AHL league rival Jesenice with 6-1 goals.
