Four youngsters extend their contract with the Broncos

Simon Bauer , born in 1989, has developed into an offensively dangerous two-way defender in recent seasons and at the same time has been able to improve his consistency in the game in his own zone. Last season, at the end of the season, he was fifth in the league in scoring among defenders. With a total of 7 goals, 33 assists and 40 points in 50 games, he also left his teammate Maksims Sirokovs behind. The fact that he knows how to use his 85 kg body weight, which is spread over 185 cm, is demonstrated by 66 penalty minutes in the past season.

The 1993 born Daniel Mafia has developed into a fixture in the white and blue back line over the last four seasons since his return from the DNL. However, the 183 centimeter tall, 83 kg two-way defender suffered a bitter setback a year ago when he seriously injured his ankle and had to miss almost the entire season. After four games with the Eppan farm team in Serie B (two goals and one assist), he only returned four games before the end of the regular season. The metal plates in his ankle were removed three weeks ago and Daniel will start training again next week. This year he wants to pick up where he left off two years ago in the Alps Hockey League, namely with a place among the Wild Horses' top four defensemen.

The youngest of the defenders is the 22-year-old Michael Messner , also a true Vipiteno. The 183 cm tall and 86 kg left-shooter returned from the Starbulls Rosenheim in the DNL in the 2012/13 season. At the end of November 2014 he moved to Eppan on loan, and last summer he was given the chance to move to Ketterä in the Finnish third division. However, an injury forced him to take a longer break, after which he no longer had a permanent place in the squad. He returned to Italy and finished the season in Serie A with Cortina. A side detail: He scored his only championship goal in 100 Serie A games on February 25, 2016 in the Weihenstephan Arena, but wearing the Cortina jersey against his hometown club. With this he wants to attack again this year and recommend himself for an important role in the white and blue back line.

The fourth of the quartet is not a defender, but Daniel Erlachers Strengths also lie in the wing position in defensive play. Nevertheless, the 185 cm tall and 93 kg left-handed shooter was able to make more of an impact offensively last season, as he did the season before, and with three goals and five assists in 48 games, the 26-year-old achieved his best goal tally to date from the 2012 second division season /13 equalize. In the opening game of the quarter-final series against Fassa, “Erle” scored the decisive winning goal to make it 2-1. “His tireless commitment and his strength in tackling make him one of those important players who are just as welcome in every team as they are unfortunately often overlooked and underestimated,” said the Broncos.
