Resurgent HCB ends regular season in fourth place

HCB coach Tom Pokel changed his lines again in the penultimate home game of the regular season and took Michele Marchetti out of the squad in place of the Finnish newcomer Mikko Luoma. Luomo mostly played alongside Alex Gellert in defense.

The Foxes tried right from the start to forget their recent disappointing performance, but only really got back on track after Ryan Glenn's opening goal. The advanced veteran completed a fine combination in the seventh minute. The home side were then lucky when Csamango shot off the post.

In the second third, the strengths that had been thought lost in the past few weeks became more and more evident for the people of Bolzano. With a quick forward passing game and high levels of forechecking, they repeatedly put the eighth-placed team from the Czech Republic in trouble. In the 25th minute, Anton Bernard grabbed the puck out of the air and pushed it in to make it 2-0. Then first Brodie Ried, then Marc-Olivier Vallerand failed at the goal post. A short time later, the latter proved to be accurate: in the power play he used a pass from Jesse Root to make it 3-0.

While the HCB cracks were at the front, especially in the second third, Marcel Melichercik wrapped up the victory with several notable saves. Only former Sterzinger Adam Hughesman ruined his shutout. He scored Znojmo's consolation goal in the final third, but Bolzano's home success could no longer be shaken.

Resurgent HCB ends regular season in fourth place

The series of defeats is over, the first win of 2017 has been achieved: HCB Südtirol Alperia found its way back to its old strength in the home game against Orli Znojmo and definitely secured fourth place. The Foxes defeated the Czech EBEL representative 2.300-3 in front of more than 1 spectators.
