Selection coach Tom Pokel reshuffled the cards before the third World Cup game and initially moved captain Alexander Egger to the center position on the fourth line. Armin Helfer took his place in defense alongside Christian Borgatello. The start of the game went exactly as expected for Italy: after just a minute, Nate Di Casmirro was there after a diagonal shot from Rob Sirianni and made it 1-0. The promising start was short-lived, however, as the Italians' game became increasingly flat and after several attempts the extremely physical Brits scored the equalizer: Robert Farmer easily rounded Stefano Marchetti and scored with a wrist shot. At the beginning of the second period, Pat Iannone struck ice cold on the power play. The HCP striker used a precise pass from Nicola Fontanive to take the lead again. This should last for the rest of the game, because from then on the Pokel protégés were much more active and tried to extend the narrow lead. Iannone, as well as the strong Nicola Fontanive and Diego Kostner, always failed with their shots because of the opposing goalkeeper or the British defense.

In the final third, another quick goal ensured the preliminary decision: Vince Rocco came around the opponent's goal and pushed the puck in after 42.40:3 minutes to make it 1-13. Just 4 seconds later, Di Casmirro grabbed the puck in the neutral zone and fed Markus Gander, who hit a hammer shot under the crossbar to make it 1-5. It was the first World Cup goal for the HCB striker. The Blue Team, in which Egger had now returned to defense, now clearly dictated the game and never gave up the victory. On the contrary: When Borgatello was in the penalty box, Dan Sullivan completed a quick counterattack to make it 1-XNUMX. This was also the final point of this game. Although Italy was not able to fully convince in the third World Cup game, they are still keeping their title course and thus the goal of promotion back clearly in mind. This should now be perfected in the games against Hungary and Kazakhstan on Friday and Saturday. Then Giulio Scandella will also return to the ice.
