Zden?k Bahenský replaces Colin Behenna at the Broncos

Even before his departure, Colin Behenna had verbally explained that he could no longer return after the tragic accidental death of his fiancée. That's why the Broncos' club management had to look for a replacement and can now report completion with the signing of Zden?k Bahenský.

The 188 cm tall, 95 kg winger was born on January 3, 1986 in Most, Czech Republic and brings with him a wealth of international experience. Bahenský can play on both the right and left wing and offers an extremely interesting combination of highly sought-after skills: speed, agility, toughness and a goal instinct that cannot be taught.

After being drafted 2004rd overall by the New York Rangers in the third round in 73, he moved from his hometown club Litvínov to the Saskatoon Blades in the WHL. There he scored 131 goals and provided 33 assists in 53 games, with these impressive 86 points also being accompanied by 177 penalty minutes. After a season in North America, where he did not get enough ice time in the AHL due to the abundance of young talent in the Rangers' system and spent most of the season in the ECHL, he returned to his home country in 2007/08.

With the jerseys of Karlovy Vary, Litvínov, Most, Mladá Boleslav, Sparta Prague, Litom??ice and Kladno, he made a total of 327 appearances in the Czech Extraliga (56 goals and 35 assists with 418 penalty minutes) and played a further 90 games in the second division (24 goals, 25 assists and 116 penalty minutes).

In the current season, Bahenský joined Nové Zámky in the Slovakian Extraliga, where Pustertal legionnaire Wacey Rabbit was originally also under contract. But he couldn't find his way there and, after a personally disappointing season with only 2 goals and 9 assists in 22 games, he signed a release clause at the beginning of January in order to complete a tryout at BK Mladá Boleslav. But then the transfer rights regulation became his downfall because his new club was not prepared to pay the transfer fee due.

This opened the door for the Broncos, whose president Simone Bressan is very happy to finally be able to field a full front row again: “We haven't even been able to play seven full games with two imports up front this year, because after the return of Colin Behenna Francis Verreault-Paul was slightly injured. When he was back in action, his brother was in a serious traffic accident, forcing him to briefly return to Canada, after which he was suspended for two games. Finally, on New Year’s Day, that terrible Chelsea accident happened.”

Bahenský will wear number 32 for the Broncos and has already arrived in Wipptal today. If the bureaucratic procedures can be completed in time, he will make his debut in the white and blue jersey on Thursday against Asiago.

Zden?k Bahenský replaces Colin Behenna at the Broncos

The WSV Sterzing Broncos Weihenstephan announced on Tuesday that it had terminated the contract with Colin Behenna and signed the Czech striker Zden?k Bahenský instead.
