Zug tames the Panthers: The DolomitenCup moves to Switzerland

The final, which was high-class over long stretches, began with real power ice hockey from Zug, who put the pedal to the metal and opened the scoring on the first power play. Viktor Stålberg was there after three minutes when Panther goalie Jonathan Boutin let the puck ricochet. He scored to make it 1-0. As a result, the Swabians couldn't find their way into the game, also because they kept weakening themselves through unnecessary penalties. Only after Lino Martschini hit the post to make it 3-0 did the DEL cracks wake up. One of the first real offensive actions was promptly rewarded with the next goal: Scott Valentine gave Augsburg goalkeeper Tobias Stephan the disadvantage for the first time in the 16th minute.

Power ice hockey and pure emotions In the middle section, the defending champions from Bavaria started with pressure, but the Swiss soon lost their edge again. Another outnumbered situation finally led to 3:1. Following a pass from Dìaz, Reto Suri sent the puck into the top corner. The Panthers were not very impressed and now contributed to a lively exchange of blows that repeatedly caused tempers to flare up in the Würtarena. In the 33rd minute it was Valentine again who converted Augsburg's offensive efforts into a goal. He shortened the score to 2:3 after a great combination. Just now, when the Panthers were in their best phase, the Zug team struck ice cold in two of their rare relief attacks: First it was Suri who made Boutin look old in a one-on-one, only a minute later Timothy Kast increased the score from close range 5:2.

Augsburg makes it exciting again In the final section, both teams paid tribute to the extremely high rhythm of the game up to that point. Significant scoring chances were now in short supply. This was also because Zug deliberately slowed down so as not to take any unnecessary risks on defense. It wasn't until the 54th minute that Augsburg was able to break through the Swiss defensive barrier. Once again it was the outstanding Valentine who kept his team alive and ushered in an explosive final phase. The tension rose again a short time later when Braden Lamb brought Augsburg to 4:5 on the power play. Now the emotions boiled over again and again, but Zug kept his perspective in the end and kept the narrow lead over time. The second title win at the DolomitenCup was finalized.

French win the small final Les Rapaces de Gap crowned its first participation in the DolomitenCup with third place. The French defeated the Nuremberg Ice Tigers 6:3 at the end of an open exchange of blows.

EV Zug secured tournament victory at the international DolomitenCup in Neumarkt for the second time since 2010. In front of more than 1.200 spectators in the packed Würtarena, the Swiss runner-up defeated defending champions Augsburg 5-4. Les Rapaces de Gap won the small final.
