For the fifth time: Panthers grab the DolomitenCup

The start of the eagerly awaited final took place exactly as it did on Saturday in the second semi-final: SC Bern set a hell of a pace and restricted the opponent in their third. While the Eisbären Berlin were the victims the day before, this time the Augsburg Panthers with South Tyrolean Alex Lambacher initially had a lot of trouble with the Swiss champions. SCB finally took the lead with the first power play. After a fine puck relay, Simon Moser made it 1-0.

Until then, the Panthers only had one top-class chance through David Stieler, who was denied by goalie Pascal Caminada. After conceding the goal, they were able to quickly free themselves from the clutches and bravely stood up to the Swiss. Sahir Gill rewarded his courageous forechecking with the equalizer. He was in the right place after Daniel Schmölz's shot was blocked. Shortly before the break, Bern had the chance to take the lead again, but Ramon Untersander's shot hit the crossbar.

Even after the first break, the spectators were treated to high-class summer ice hockey. This time it was the AEV that started better and forced the lead for the first time. In the power play, former NHL crack Matt Fraser scored to make it 2-1. Just a few turns later, Jakob Mayenschein even scored Augsburg's third goal, but the goal post stood in the way of his luck. And so it was the Swiss capitalists who played their outstanding power play to perfection: Andrew Ebbett hit the mark with a hidden shot. The second section also ended in a draw. Sahir Gill becomes the match winner At the beginning of the final third, a duel on a knife's edge developed, in which both teams constantly looked for a way into the offensive and thus continued the goal spectacle unhindered. Ten minutes before the end, Scott Valentine gave Augsburg the lead again with a blueliner, and the powerful Moser provided the appropriate answer. The national player and captain of Bern danced past the opposing defense in the power play, made it 3-3 and sent both teams into overtime. This was just 38 seconds old when Gill intercepted a Bernese pass and stormed alone towards the SCB goal. He scored dryly to make it 4:3 and sparked unbroken celebration among the Panthers. This year the tournament victory also went via the Brenner to Augsburg.

Already in the afternoon, Vålerenga beat the Eisbären Berlin 2-1 after a penalty shootout in the game for third place ( see own report ).
