Two days of hockey in its purest form at Ritten

At Ritten everything is ready for two days of hockey in one of its original forms. The tournament name “Pond Hockey” comes from English and means “pond hockey” and describes playing on a frozen lake or pond. 42 teams registered, with 40 teams made up of men and two teams made up of women. The teams are divided into teams under and over 35 years of age.

35 teams have registered in the Under 24 category (TOP DIVISION). The participants come from Italy (mostly from South Tyrol), from Germany, from Austria, Switzerland but also from Lichtenstein. Among the 24 teams there are also two women's teams: the Ponytail Chicks and ice cOLD.

There are 35 teams registered in the over 18 category (GOLD DIVISION). Teams from Italy (again mostly teams from South Tyrol), from Germany and from Austria play here.

In total, spectators will be able to watch 224 games at the Eisring in Klobenstein. Each team must play at least seven preliminary round games and at least one playoff game. Whoever wants to leave the “pond” as the winner has to assert themselves in five playoff games in addition to seven preliminary round duels. The preliminary round games begin on Friday, January 6th at 9 a.m. and extend into the evening. The playoffs are also entering the hot phase on Saturday. The game is played on a total of six fields. The semi-finals and finals will be held in the adjacent stadium. The final in the Gold Division kicks off at 17 p.m., the final in the top division at 18 p.m.

The supporting program is also not neglected during this two-day event. In a recently erected marquee, the serving begins on Friday with a morning pint at 10 a.m. South Tyrolean specialties are served. Musically, “Die Blechernen 7” will be in action. The live band “Moe's Garage” will be playing in the marquee from 20 p.m. On Saturday, January 7th, tent operations will resume at 10 a.m. A big closing ceremony is planned in the marquee from 21 p.m. Various DJs will present themselves at their best as part of a DJ festival. The DJs included are Ivan Fellini, Matty Valentino, DJ Carlo, Alibi DJ and Bigcity Beasts.

A special highlight is the “skills competition”. Whoever collects the most points in the disciplines of hardest shot, target shooting and most accurate pass can call themselves the owner of an original Vespa.

Game mode: Each team consists of a maximum of six players, with three against three played on small goals and without a goalkeeper in a preliminary round and a subsequent knockout round. The game duration is 12 minutes in the preliminary round and 20 minutes in the playoffs (from the semi-finals onwards). The size of the playing area is approximately 12 x 30 meters.

Each division consists of four groups of a maximum of eight teams, with the four best-placed teams advancing to the knockout phase after the group phase. The play-offs begin with the round of 16 and end with the final at the end of the tournament.
