These European Championship stars rely on South Tyrolean know-how

When Spain's Unai Simon sails through the air, France's world champion Hugo Lloris glides elegantly along the line or Wojciech Szczesny defends Poland's goal with daring physical effort, everyone in the Kampill Center in Bolzano takes a close look and even cheers. These three players and several others have a very special bond there.

The sporting goods manufacturer Reusch has its control center in the building complex on Innsbrucker Straße in Bolzano. It has been based there since 2009 and even moved its headquarters from Reutlingen to the South Tyrolean state capital four years ago. From there, not only ski stars like Henrik Kristoffersen and Mikaela Shiffrin are supplied with gloves, but also some of the best keepers in the world. Six of them are in action at the current European Championships.

Probably the most famous Reusch testimonial is Hugo Lloris , who was crowned world champion with France in 2018 and now wants to lead “Les Bleus” to the next title as captain. The 34-year-old Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper is France's undisputed record goalkeeper with 126 appearances. In any case, Lloris has mastered the start of this year's European Championship with flying colors, remaining undefeated in the 1-0 opening clash against Germany on Monday.

Lloris is not the only goalkeeper with South Tyrolean gloves who has legitimate hopes of winning the European Championship. With Unai Simon Spain's top performer between the posts also swears by the material from Reusch. The youngster from Athletic Bilbao was preferred over Manchester United's David de Gea and justified the trust in him in the 0-0 draw against Sweden in the opening game of the "Roja".

In addition to the French and Spanish, the Italians are also aiming for a place in the final at Wembley - not least because of their convincing 3-0 wins against Turkey and Switzerland. In Serie A, Meret is not the only one fishing for the leather with South Tyrolean hand covers, but also Wojciech Szczesny from dethroned series champions Juventus. He is considered a little insider tip with the Polish national team at this European Championship, but is already under a lot of pressure after the surprising 1:2 at the start against Slovakia.

The two other keepers with a connection to South Tyrol at this World Cup are Croatia's number one Dominik Livakovic (Dinamo Zagreb) and the Bundesliga experienced Jiri Pavlenka (Werder Bremen), who completed the European Championship preparation in Vals with the Czech team, but was missing from the opening win against Scotland due to injury.
