Löw's European Championship team is practically there - only one question remains

Is that Joachim Löw's European Championship team yet? This question naturally arose after the national soccer team's 1000-7 victory in the international training match against Latvia, which was applauded by 1 spectators. But a week before the big start to the European Championships against world champions France, the national coach didn't want to answer "yes".

“It is important that the competition remains high,” said Löw. Regarding the line-up for the first group game on June 15th in Munich, he already remarked: “Of course most of the players will be on the pitch.” Ultimately, this team was able to advertise itself, even if they were ranked 138th in the world. Latvia was not a European Championship benchmark in terms of sport. France is a different house number “Of course we know that France is a different house,” said Thomas Müller. After his goal comeback in the national jersey, the returnee said humorously with a view to the final on July 11th: “We have kept the calendar clear until mid-July.”

But first there is the group phase - and it will be difficult enough with top favorites France, defending champions Portugal and outsiders Hungary. But the Latvia game showed that Löw's team is keen on this European Championship and wants to make a difference together.

Löw liked a lot of what he saw. The learning content of the training camp in Seefeld was implemented. The goal score was also right – finally. “The efficiency was good in this game,” said Löw. Robin Gosens, Ilkay Gündogan, Thomas Müller, Serge Gnabry and substitutes Timo Werner and Leroy Sané scored. The midfield remains. Löw faces a key question there. As a test, he moved his actually best six, Joshua Kimmich, to the right again against the Latvians and occupied the center with the defensively not so aggressive duo Kroos and Gündogan. Also against France? Löw wants to use the days after moving into the EM quarters in Herzogenaurach this Tuesday to fine-tune things. “Now the work really begins again,” he said, looking at the remaining week of preparation for the tournament emergency.
