Didier Deschamps (France team boss): “We did what we needed to take a 3-1 lead. After that we showed weakness, which is totally unusual for our team. Losing on penalties is always cruel for a team. Kylian Mbappe is incredibly sad, like all the other players, but no one can be mad at him because he took on the great responsibility of taking the fifth penalty.”

Yann Sommer (Switzerland goalkeeper): “I'm still a bit beside myself. It was an incredible evening of football, we showed a lot of morale and heart. Nobody really believed in us anymore. But when you pick up two goals against the world champions at a time when you're actually already down, then that's incredible. We swore before the game that no matter how things went, we would go to the end. I’m incredibly proud of this team.”
