Ramos, who won the European Championship title in 2008 and 2012 and was crowned world champion in 2010, is one of a few well-known names that the pan-European tournament will have to do without. Zlatan Ibrahimovic also had to bury his hopes for the European Championships due to an injury. The captain of “Oranje” is condemned to continue watching after suffering a torn cruciate ligament in October of last year. Europe's Footballer of the Year 2019 was faced with a race for fitness. The 29-year-old finally declared that he wanted to focus completely on the final phase of rehab. “I feel that this is the right decision,” said Van Dijk. The team career of Portugal's winning goalscorer in the 2016 final is already over: striker Eder (33) now plays for Lok Moscow. He was last used in the Selecao at the end of 2018.
