Tania Cagnotto: Completion is near

Tania Cagnotto has already fulfilled a lifelong dream in Rio. A week ago she and Francesca Dallapè won silver in the synchronized diving on the 3m board. The first Olympic medal in Tania’s career – it was a reality. And yet a special piece of precious metal is still missing from her huge medal collection. She has yet to win an Olympic medal in the individual 3m board – four years ago in London she missed out on a bronze medal by a ridiculous 0,2 points. At that time, Cagnotto was at the lowest point in her career. She is now back in business and is one of the favorites for the bronze medal ahead of the individual 3m board final at 21 p.m. - gold and silver are already almost certainly in Chinese hands.

"It's the head that counts in the final" A week ago, Cagnotto was relaxed and calm. “After the silver medal with Francesca Dallapè, I said that I would go into individual jumping calmly and relaxed. But now the opposite is the case: the tension is huge and the fear is slumbering everywhere,” Cagnotto is quoted on the association website after her semi-final appearance on Saturday. But she can't get over the fact that she made a few mistakes in the semifinals. “I've never been comfortable with qualifications and semi-finals. Unforeseeable things can always happen. Making it to the final was a big relief for me.” Cagnotto is therefore looking forward to her last career highlight with optimism: “Now I will give everything until the last jump. The Chinese are too strong, Jennifer Abel is physically better than me. But in the final, what counts most is the head.” And anyone who knows Tania knows that she can be quite stubborn when she has set herself a goal. One thing is clear: with a medal, the woman from Bolzano would finally be complete.
