1st Amateur League: No problem, Lukas has to go into the box

In the game between Steinhaus and Albeins, there were curiosities to be found in every corner, end and puddle of the football pitch in St. Jakob im Ahrntal. For example, there were five (!) penalties that the referee awarded in the 90 minutes, but only two of them were converted. There is Steinhaus attacker Viktor Zimmerhofer, who made the game really exciting again after being 0-3 down with his goals in the 87th and 90th minutes at the end. And of course there was the appearance of Lukas Niederwolfsgruber, who normally plays a role in Albein's defense, but suddenly and unexpectedly slipped into the goalkeeper role on Sunday.

What happened? Well, in the 13th minute of the game in St. Jakob, Albein's goalkeeper Viktor Lazzeri collided with an opponent. It quickly became clear: the Brixen goalkeeper couldn't go on and he had to be replaced. The problem: Lazzeri is already the Albeinser's second goalkeeper and replaces the regular goalkeeper, who was injured for the entire first half of the season. There is no third goalkeeper.

Defender as a penalty killer For a short time there was a similar state of panic and helplessness on the Albeins bench as at Hamburger SV at the moment - until a tall and robust guy took courage, suddenly jumped up, put on the goalkeeper's jersey and rushed into the box. It was the young Lukas Niederwolfsgruber, who between the posts had the experience of a six-year-old on the first day of school, but despite everything he cut a good figure and kept his “box” sparkling clean until the final phase. Shortly before the end of the game, the highlight of his 75 minutes as a goalkeeper was when he was able to defuse a penalty in the first attempt, but had no chance with the follow-up shot. A little later, the defender with gloves conceded another goal from a penalty, but that didn't dampen the joy of the 3-2 win.

By the way: Niederwolfsgruber was not the first outfield player who had to help out in the goalkeeper position for Albeins this year. Against Hochpustertal (3-2 win) and Mühlbach (1-3 defeat), the Brixen team also had an acute shortage of keepers, which is why players Andreas Villscheider and Alan Visalli had to step into the breach. So it wouldn't be surprising if the Brixen goalie coach had to work some overtime in the future.
