1st Amateur League | Neumarkt's strange mistake: game sweaty

Klaus Pichler, President of Neumarkt, answers our phone call with a brief smile. “I can already imagine what it’s about,” he smiles, alluding to the championship match on Saturday that wasn’t played. “Yes, it was really a stupid mistake that can’t be made up for now.”

What happened? Actually, everything would have been set up for an afternoon of football in Schenna on Saturday. The home team and referee were already ready - what was missing was the visiting team from Neumarkt, who simply sweated out the game. “We have a junior team and were therefore of the opinion that all of our games would be played on Sunday,” explained President Pichler.

Only: Neumarkt's juniors were free to play on Saturday, so the game against Schenna, which plays all of its home games on Saturday, was also scheduled for that day. Those responsible at Neumarkt overlooked this and until Saturday afternoon were of the opinion that the game would take place on Sunday. The receipt? The game is rated on the green table with a 3-0 win for Schenna. “That hurts, after all we desperately need the points at the moment,” concludes Klaus Pichler and refers to the table in which his Neumarkt team are in last place with no points.
